Digitising cooperative finance
A platform that runs an entire cooperative society from one system, covering members, contributions, loans and reporting, and replacing the ledger book and the group chat.
The problem
Cooperative societies move serious money on trust and paper. Contributions are tracked in a notebook, loan decisions live in a WhatsApp thread, and the treasurer is a single point of failure. Members have no independent view of their own balance, which is exactly where disputes start.
What we did
Built member-facing, admin-facing and hub applications against one shared API, so a member sees the same balance the treasurer does, from the same source of truth.
Modelled contribution cycles, loan applications, approvals and repayment schedules as explicit domain objects rather than spreadsheet columns.
Made every financial movement an append-only ledger entry, so history is reconstructable and a correction is a new entry rather than an edit.
Structured the codebase as separate deployables per audience, letting the member app iterate quickly while admin stays stable.
Outcome
Cooperative operations consolidated into one auditable system, with members, administrators and the wider hub each working from a single shared record.
